Why
Volunteer?
Volunteers are
essential to the Canadian Mental Health Association
- Calgary
Region, and to the thousands of people who depend
on our services each year. More than 200 volunteers
contribute over 15,000 hours to a range of programs
as peer mentors, group facilitators, presenters, and
long term care visitors. From teenagers to grandparents
- people from all walks of life volunteer in our programs,
our office, and at our events. Volunteers make make
it possible to do more work, help more people, and
make a huge difference in the community! This valuable
donation of time, effort, and dedication enables CMHA
to broaden its support for people with mental health
issues living in our community.

How much
time does it take?
Volunteering for us can take as little or as much time
as your are willing to spare. Positions are available
to accommodate just about any schedule, and can be a
regular weekly or monthly commitment, or a one-time
activity.
Who can
volunteer?
We welcome volunteers from any demographic including
youth or senior, married or single, male or female.
Volunteering with CMHA is an experience available
for anyone who wants to give back to their community,
and make a difference. We also encourage people who
have experienced a mental illness themselves to volunteer
as a way to engage with the community, and provide
great inspiration to others.
How do
I become a volunteer?
To become a volunteer, the first step is to contact
our Volunteer Services department. You will be asked
to do an interview so that we can get to know you
and discuss your interests. From there you will receive
appropriate training if necessary and will then be
ready to start.
