Advocacy  

The Advocacy program helps locate information and resources to assist consumers of mental health services who feel lost in the system and provides referrals to other agencies for assistance. The program ensures that human rights are protected and basic needs are met.

The Advocacy program works with mental health clients, their families and significant others to constructively identify shortcomings that exist in the system and contribute to creative solutions which lead to a better quality of life.

Self Advocacy Workshop

This free interactive workshop will introduce you to the skills you need to effectively advocate for yourself. The two-hour workshop is free and open to the public, but space is limited, so please call 403-297-1402 to register.

Self Advocacy Guide
          Self-advocacy allows people to make a difference in
          their own lives and leads to personal empowerment.

A manual designed to assist mental health consumers understand how to self-advocate for change in their lives.


Telephone and One-on-One Support
The advocacy program provides assistance with issues like citiznship, health care, landlord/tenant issues, financial matters and more. The CMHA Advocate is available via telephone, e-mail or in person for situations requiring more in-depth guidance such as assistance with complex paperwork, or where extended follow-up is required.

Self Advocacy
The self-advocacy component of this program is a series of interactive workshops that empower mental health consumers to manage the challenges associated with larger systems including AISH, Alberta Works and the legal system. The workshops teach practical skills and strive to enhance self-esteem.
