Why Become a CMHA Member?
This year’s
report card shines a harsh and frankly unflattering
light on the attitudes we Canadians have concerning
mental health. In some ways, mental illness
is the final frontier of socially acceptable
discrimination. - Dr. Brian Day,
President, Canadian Medical Association
Dr. Day's comments on Canadians’
attitudes towards mental illness shines a light
on the importance of the work the Canadian Mental
Health Association (CMHA). On a national, provincial
and local level, CMHA strives to bring mental
health issues to light, to educate the public,
to be a voice for those who can’t speak
for themselves and to provide community support
for those who are impacted by a mental disorder.
By becoming a CMHA - Calgary Region
member, you show your support for raising awareness
about mental illness, combating discrimination
and stigma, and for providing practical community
support for individuals, families, and workplaces
in Calgary that are trying to meet the challenges
imposed by mental illness. In the past year,
CMHA - Calgary Region fought discriminatory
attitudes about mental illness through the successful
province-wide My Mental Health campaign. We
provided advocacy services for individuals and
touched the lives of over 17,000 Calgarians
through our programs and services.
When you join the CMHA - Calgary
Region. you also become a member of CMHA’s
Alberta and National Divisions, which serve
as a voice to policy makers. And you can make
