Help Mel reach his national goal of $250,000!

60 year-old Xerox VP, Mel Thompson, is cycling across Canada in 100 days to raise awareness about mental illness and donations to support CMHA programs nation-wide. Mr. Thompson is inspired to take on this feat by his daughter Lindsay, who was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder at 18 years old.

Mr. Thompson hopes to raise $250,000 through his efforts, and Xerox Canada offices across Canada are working to help him reach that goal. In Alberta, Xerox employees raised more than $18,000 for CMHA -Calgary and CMHA -Edmonton programs and services. Find out how you can support The Ride for Mental Health at therideformentalhealth.org, and follow Mel's journey through his blog, Mel's Ride for Mental Health.

The 5th Annual Mat's Ride raised over $19,000 for CMHA youth education programs.

On June 20, 2009, motorcyclists hit the highway between Calgary and Rafter 6 Ranch to raise awareness about youth depression. The money raised by the riders will help CMHA continue to deliver youth programs to students in junior high and high schools. The programs teach students about managing stress, depression, and battling the stigma that is often associated with mental illness.

This year's Ride will take place June 20, 2009 - mark your calendar and plan to ride, sponsor, or donate! For more information, visit www.matsride.org.

Great Food Pairs with Great Mental Health!

John Gilchrist's new book, My Favorite Cheap Eats in Calgary, Banff, Canmore, Foothills and Beyond was launched on March 7 - 9, 2008 at the Calgary Farmers Market. During the event Gilchrist was there to sign books and each hour was joined by a chef from one of the resturants in his book, providing free food samples to the public. The books sold for $15 each and 20% of the profits were donated to CMHA - Calgary Region.

Gilchrist's generous donation will go to Workplace Solutions within the Peer Options program. Workplace Solutions provides a supportive environment where working adults with a mental illness can further their health and wellness.

On behalf of CMHA - Calgary Region and Workplace Wellness, thank you for your donation!
